UltimateBet Poker Room Review

Ultimate Bet

Rating: ★★★½☆

The number “99” means two things in the world of UltimateBet: It’s Phil Hellmuth’s favorite starting hand (he won the World Series of Poker with pocket nines in 1989), and it’s the year UB was launched. Yes, that’s right, UltimateBet pre-dates almost every other site out there, having been around since 1999. But that doesn’t make it the proverbial “dinosaur” of the online poker world. Nearly a decade old, UB, with 2,000,000 registered players, remains as fresh and cutting-edge as any site in the business.

Few sites can compete with UB for mainstream exposure (thanks to Hellmuth and Annie Duke being the faces of the site and getting their own reality-TV show, The Best Damn Poker Show) and innovative marketing and rewards programs. The program currently grabbing the poker world’s attention is called “RAI$E,” where players work their way through five levels with frequent play to win bonus merchandise, cash, and VIP trips. Also, UB offers a staggering 111% deposit bonus on up to $1,000. Another huge lure is UltimateBet’s bad beat jackpot, which has been making headlines with massive payouts since its introduction in 2007.

One of the best features at UltimateBet is the wide variety of games to choose from. Naturally, there’s Hold ’Em, Omaha, and Seven-Card Stud, plus fairly commonly found games like Razz, Triple Draw, H.O.R.S.E., and H.O.S.E. But they offer a couple of variations you hardly find anywhere, such as a Half Hold ’Em/Half Omaha mixed game and Crazy Pineapple. UltimateBet also gives you access to Elimination Blackjack, and—get this—Roshambo. Yes, online Rock-Paper-Scissors. You have to love it.

As far as stakes go, No-Limit cash games range from $.01/$.02 to $50/$100, while Limit games reach as high as $150/$300. Sit-n-gos start as low as $.50, but if you’re a high roller, you can find one-table tourneys for as much as $1,000.

The focus of UB’s calendar each year is the Aruba Poker Classic, and while UB offers great opportunities to satellite into WSOP and WPT events, nothing compares to the way they propel players toward seats in Aruba.

And even if you don’t make it to Aruba, you’ll feel like you’re there when you sit at UltimateBet’s virtual tables, which feature the look and feel of the outdoor Aruba Classic final table. The interface is very user-friendly, with a wide assortment of stats at your fingertips, not to mention oversized hole cards that you couldn’t mis-read even if you were playing from 20 feet across the room. Plus, UB recently introduced re-sizeable tables, a welcome addition for multi-tablers everywhere.

But above all, UltimateBet is the home of Hellmuth, and if there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s this: There’s no better feeling in poker than felting Phil. If you crave that experience, UB can make it happen.
