Full Tilt Poker Room Review

Full - Tilt

Rating: ★★★★½

One way to make money at poker is to find players worse than you and take their chips. Another way to make money at poker is to find players better than you and become a better player through the experience of facing them. In particular, playing against the pros can do wonders for your learning curve. And if your goal is to get better at poker by tangling with the pros, Full Tilt is the site for you.

As you know if you’ve seen any of their TV or print ads (which are the most stylish in the business), the roster of stars that make up Team Full Tilt is staggering in its depth and quality. Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson, Phil Ivey, Phil Gordon, Allen Cunningham, John Juanda, Jennifer Harman, Erick Lindgren, Erik Seidel, Andy Bloch, Mike Matusow, Gus Hansen, and Clonie Gowen all play exclusively at FTP, plus there are nearly a hundred more pros who have some affiliation with the site and play there at least semi-regularly. There’s no better site to go to if your goal is to tell your friends you took down a monster pot against a superstar.

Largely because of its brilliant marketing, Full Tilt has grown at a ridiculous pace since its 2004 launch, and by standing up to the U.S. government when anti-gaming legislation came along in ’06, Full Tilt is now one of the two largest sites in the world (boasting roughly 80,000 players at peak hours). That means there is never a shortage of tables for just about any kind of game and just about any limit. All the usual suspects are there: Texas Hold ’Em, Omaha, Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven-Card Stud, Seven-Card Stud Hi-Lo, Five-Card Draw, Razz, and mixed games such as H.O.R.S.E. and H.O.S.E. You can find cash games, sit-n-gos, and multi-table tournaments around the clock, and in particular, Full Tilt is known for hosting some of the highest-stakes games found on the Internet. When Phil Ivey is tangling with a whale and the pots are reaching several hundred thousand bucks, even sitting back and being a railbird can be a thrill.

Full Tilt offers a whopping $5-million worth of weekly guaranteed tournaments, and the Full Tilt Online Poker Series is one of the biggest series on the virtual poker calendar. There’s also a tremendous emphasis put on qualifying for major live tournaments, most notably the World Series of Poker (where there’s a $10-million bonus if a Full Tilt qualifier wins it all) and the FTP-sponsored Aussie Millions in January.

As far as the user interface goes, Full Tilt’s is among the most innovative in the industry. The look is first-class and the cartoon-style avatars stand out from what you see at most sites, plus FTP offers mini-view functions that enable much easier multi-table play. Full Tilt has been available for both PC and Mac much longer than the majority of the competing sites, and they’ve also stayed ahead of the technological curve by supporting automated import of playing data compiled via outside tracking programs.

If you want to play with the pros, Full Tilt is the way to go. And even if you just want a casual game at lower stakes against a table full of fish, you can find just what you’re looking for at FTP.
